Hi,

I am designing a mixed signal PCB.  I am very confused about choosing the right voltage rating for bypass capacitor for supply pins of my chips. Choosing the other parameters like dielectric type, capacitance value, ESR, ESL, temperature coefficient were explained in many articles and books, but not one of them explained voltage related concepts in depth. I understood the concept behind suggestion of using a capacitor rated double the required operating voltage, but what if I use a very high voltage rated capacitor(for example a 0.1uF/50V capacitor across my 1.8V-GND rails). Doesn't it give good results? Please give me all suggestions.

Thanks in advance.
